What To Do In Viñales? (Ii)
Also Viñales, the county seat, has a very typical architectural. Because it is a small village, the network of its few streets are orthogonal type, classic colonial structures. The two main streets, known today as Salvador Cisneros and Rafael Trejo, are the oldest and most representative, with many of the doorways lined with columns, which gives a very striking and pleasant appearance, explaining that visitors both like to walk streets, particularly at sunset. In the Calle Salvador Cisneros striking are the pines that are on both sides of the road and park where the Catholic Church and the current House of Culture. It presents a somewhat heavy traffic, it is often used to step between Pinar del Rio and the peripheral villages of the North Coast: Puerto Esperanza, Matahambre Mines, St. Lucia, Pons, San Cayetano, Ancon, Republic of Chile, Constancia Mine , San Vicente, La Palma, Laguna Junction House, among others.
The other street, Rafael Trejo, is very different. The visuals, the absence of pine, are more spacious and allow continually see the nature that surrounds the town, including hummocks, even those located a mile away. Instead of pine trees, gardens are small in size, but often florid and well maintained.
All this makes visitors feel as if in a family atmosphere. Numerous houses are scattered throughout the town and suburbs. The villa is very quiet without the hustle of big cities, viviéndose still a village atmosphere in the field. His quiet invitation to rest after traveling environment.
Camping in the San Vicente Valley, either in the resort Las Magnolias or the San Vicente, is an unforgettable experience. The place has a very pleasant microclimate and nearby forests allow the existence of many different groups of birds, allowing them to be viewed at any time of day, especially woodpeckers and hummingbirds. In summer the days and nights are cool and in winter the nights are cold. Both places are very close together and small community between St. Vincent and the Cueva del Indio, in the latter it is possible to make an underground tour by boat and see odd secondary formations (stalactites and stalagmites), typical of the erosive action of river in that cave.
The two brothers are camping in another valley, but smaller and near the Mural of Prehistory. It also has a small place like a classroom very well mounted and which explains in a brief and entertaining the geological history of the region. Unlike San Vicente has more easy communication with Viñales and is very close Palmarito Valley, which has relative height lower than that of Viñales and where snuff and rice planting. Only from a section of the route can be seen Cocosolo-Palmarito beautiful views of the valley, where red is combined with the green soil of different crops and the high wooded hills of the Sierra de Viñales in the north.
Viñales, valleys and elevations are classical sites of visiting scientists, teachers and students, both Cuban institutions and abroad. The disciplines of Geology, Geography, Biology and related sciences in these places are ideal spots for excursions to sites of geological, speleological, paleontological, flora and fauna. The excursions of this type are made by cooperation agreements between the Viñales National Park and the schools concerned.
It can be said that within the same Viñales are the elements of the surrounding nature. Local villagers have high sensitivity dedicated to performing works today may become legacies for the future and example to others. Let us briefly mention and describe their work.
At the end of the village, after refueling station, is a bit long but forest formed by tall trees. Within a very small house tiled roofs, typical of Viñales, invites input. A small iron gate hung with fruits that are in the garden, leads to the house, but not before observing small lizards (small green harmless reptiles) that feed on these fruits.
This place is popularly known as the Garden of Charity and Carmen. It all started many years ago, since early last century, when germinated the idea of building a place to feel at home among trees and flowers. Wine doffing of the family and father and daughter began to grow, first the trees, many of them brought from the nearby mountains and other parts of the province.
Then came the flowers, so many that there was no room and began to appear in the vessels, many of them on a whim and placed in the most unlikely places. Any toy or other vessel coming obsolete unless used for these purposes.
The descendants of the family are now octogenarians and, fortunately, still have the strength and love for his work. They have been awarded the recognition of National Reference Patio, award given by the Cuban state to the works that should lead by example
